Through the lens of photographer Ivan Segura‑Lara, Paris is more than a city to be admired. It is an “open‑air museum” constantly open to everyday life. Churches, libraries and Wallace fountains dot its streets. They bear historical weight and remain alive as they are used, viewed and reinterpreted.
Departing from Parisian urban heritage, this exhibition expands to the artist’s nine‑year continuous observation of Wuhan. Paris’ historically significant buildings integrated into daily life echo Wuhan’s construction sites and evolving urban fabric. The modern architectural heritage of Hankou Historic District, alongside its status and transformation amid contemporary urban renewal, raises a vital question: how can a city preserve its memory and identity amid ongoing development. Within the exhibition, two long‑term yet interconnected practices of Ivan converge: his focus on architectural heritage, and his sustained documentation of urban construction and transformation.
Spanning Parisian churches, libraries and public fountains to architectural imagery of Wuhan, photography builds a bridge between the two cities. It captures not merely the outward appearance of buildings, but renders visible the time, memories and human lives behind them. The exhibition invites local audiences in Wuhan to revisit their own city through Ivan’s Paris, and to reflect: how do we recognize our identity amid constant change, and how can history keep living within contemporary life.
