Recently, "Yangtze IP: The Global Cultural Narrative of a Great River" was officially published by Hubei People's Press. The book is co-authored by a team of nine young scholars led by Deng Wei, Vice President of the Hubei Academy of Social Sciences and Deputy Director of the Yangtze Culture Research Institute.

Description /

The Yangtze River is a world-class river that carries profound historical heritage, vibrant contemporary energy, and ecological wisdom. Closely following General Secretary Xi Jinping's earnest instruction to "strengthen the research on the origins of Yangtze civilization and its communication and display," this book, for the first time, systematically explores the construction logic and communication pathways of the Yangtze as a global cultural IP. Richly illustrated, the book adopts an interdisciplinary perspective, integrating methods from history and communication studies. By deeply tracing the Western perception of the Yangtze from the 9th to the 20th century, it reveals the historical awakening of the Yangtze's image—from a geographical spectacle under the "gaze of the other" to a civilized subject in "self-narrative." It not only covers cutting-edge academic topics such as semiotic construction, tracing historical appellations, and cultural heritage protection but also delves into field research on vivid practices like local international communication centers and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' global promotion activities. Furthermore, it explores new ways to empower the international communication of the Yangtze IP through artificial intelligence and AIGC technologies, contributing solid think-tank strength to the research and display of Yangtze civilization and demonstrating the theoretical consciousness of Chinese scholars in the face of civilizational dialogue.
